We can do it!

We are team B4!! Haha, weird name but it's the name for our case competition group consisting of me, christabel, rhys and ningjia. We joined for fun and me just wanted to add a bit more colours to my resume..keke....Surprisely, we made it to quarter final...

We were supposed to come up with a set of recommendations and present them in just 24 hours...We met on Friday and thought we just need a few hours to complete...We were wrong...we stayed till 8 and haven't really finished....Stressed! keke...cos never "rush" through a project before..

On sat morning, we were all sleepy sleepy but we managed to present our case and in 20 minutes, all was over! Although it was a bit tiring, the experience was quite fun and it proved that last minute work is workable..haha...no no, i'm not encouraging u to be slack...ke... awaiting results now..... jia you jia you :)

My Birthday Present

Well, those who know me must have known that my birthday has been 3 months ago...So who will give me my birthday present at this point in time? Well...tha answer is my tutee!!

Actually, her birthday falls on the 15th of Aug so I bought a Bratz doll for her. She was very happy and today when I went to give her tuition, she was washing and combing the doll's hair. At the start of the tuition, I was surprised that she presented me a parcel with the words "Happy Birthday".

"This is for you, happy birthday!" she said.

She knew that my birthday had passed but she felt that since I bought her a gift, she also needed to give me one... I opened it up and inside was a ........

Storybook titled "The Rabbit Whiskers and other stories"

She has read it and decided to pass to me cos she finds it interesting. Actually, I had read it when I was her age but I did not tell her..keke...She also said that this book was special cos......

she coloured one of the pages inside..Haha, I found it sweet and funny of her to come up with this birthday gift...Kids are indeed simple and cute!

Not Again

I used to have a pet hamster called mao mao (it died in March). The experience of raising a pet was fun as you can see how a small pet grown from being a stranger to one that's close to you. The experience of seeing it passed away was painful though....

My neighbour has a kid in Primary 1. All children have curiosity and this kid has curiosity in owning a pet.... Once, he eagerly bought a small white hamster and for the first few days, the hamster was still ok and he did his small part in feeding him. However, his parents did not educate him that keeping a pet is a responsibility, not just for a moment of fun. The kid did not have proper knowledge on taking care of a hamster, and I can see that his parents did not have either (or did not bother...). You can imagine the poor hamster living in such conditions....

One day, when I alighted from the lift, I saw the hamster in a cage, near the litter shoot!! I was very angry cos it's simply irresponsible! How can they throw a living thing and leave it to die just like that !!!!! My sis and I decided to keep it cos we can't bear to let it die..

Today, when I got home, I saw a box outside their house...I peeped in and there was a very cute hamster inside! Inside the box was a small container of food and a toy....I felt angry suddenly...The parents have let the kid keep a pet again...and they put it outside the house, with no proper cage and no water! One poor hamster again...I really dunno why they want to own a pet when they dun wan to take proper care of it..

Things aren't the same

Things aren't the same as you grow older...what's seem appropriate for this time, may end up inappropriate for that time.....
Last time in my secondary school time, high socks that went up to the knees were looked upon as fashion, like those Japanese school girls....So most of the times, you could see school girls wearing long white socks to schools...

In my JC times till now, high length socks were simply out of fashion....What they called "in", "cool"are ankle socks that are almost invisible when you wear the sneakers/sport shoes to school....No one will know if you are wearing any socks....
Last time, you could see people carrying bags that were so tiny that you wondered whether they were capable of holding any books....The smaller and the higher you carried, the more cool you were...I still could remember once I saw a guy, a tall slim guy, carrying a small yellow bag and he fasten the straps so tightly that the bag looked like it was stuck on his back...mmmm....I felt weird though .....

Now, dragging large bags are what most students are carrying to school, especially boys...the bags' straps are so long that the bags they are carrying are almost touching the floor...although the bags are large, I doubt there are many books inside..haha...
Gone are the days where students wore nicely ironed, smart fitting uniforms...What's in now are uniforms that are oversized...(applies to guys though)...I can see school boys wearing pants that are very baggy...

Gone are the days where neat, centre-parting well-gelled hair were the standard school boys' hairstyles...Now is spiky, messy hair that is the most popular hairstyle for school boys le.....
Do you still remember when you were small, teachers would praise you and liked you a lot when you were a quiet student? Teachers loved students when they were quiet, right? So that's me...Been a quiet student since young...

However, things aren't the same. Now, teachers require you to speak and voice out. They even have participation marks to encourage (or "force" in my case) to speak. But, I have so so used to being a quiet student and dun dare to speak to teachers...so I'm always giving up my precious marks...cos I just can't do it!!! Don't they say "People who know much, talk little"? keke

Things aren't the same anymore.............

Universal Remote Control

Yup, seeing the title will tell u that i'm going to talk about the movie "Click"....seen the movie today with my friends...from the preview I saw on TV, i thought it was going to be just a comedy...but I was wrong, it has more meaning than simply making you laugh....

Not going to tell you about the plot in case you are going to watch it...I heard people sniffing when it the movie came to the touching part...the morale of the movie is to treasure the time you have with your loved ones... Time flies and sometimes, you do things that you regret doing later... sometimes it's too late to make any amends....

I'm sure everyone knows that we must treasure the time we have with our loved ones but think carefully, have we really really spent more time with our loved ones? Have we really learnt to cherish them?

I'm glad that in the end, the movie had a happy ending....The universal remote control is great but if it can automatically fast forward your life, I will rather throw it away cos I dun wan to miss any moment of my life, may it be good or bad....

Fireworks!!

12th of Aug is the last day for the Singapore Firework Festival...for the past years, I would always make a point to watch the fireworks cos I think it's an event not to be missed! This time round, I watched it with a group of my friends and of course, OP (his nickname..haha)! keke...

This year, OP surprises me by booking a room at marina mandarin hotel so that i can gather my friends and watch the fireworks together without having to squeeze in the crowd!! Hee, however, our hotel view can't see the fireworks, luckily, OP's mum also booked a room with OP's cousins....their balcony is great cos has direct view on the fireworks!! wow...last time, I was in the crowd, sweating and struggling to watch the fireworks..now I am in the comfort of the room and watching the pretty fireworks with my friends..hee hee...thanks a lot lot, OP!! The 15 mins of watching was filled with "wow" and "wah"..haha...

I gonna watch the fireworks every year!!!!! cos it's simply beautiful :)

心的距离

Last time, I used to listen to 933 音乐日记, the DJ would always entertain me with the touching or sad stories. Sometimes, the DJ would say some meaningful short stories...Here's one which I remembered cos I agree with what it has to say.....So hope to share with you the story but the following are not the exact words though, however the meaning is still there...hee... :)

Singapore birthday!

Today is Singapore 41st birthday!! Wow, Singapore is younger than my parent..haha...Did you still remember the primary/secondary/JC days where students got to celebrate National Day and had half day off? Haha, so good right? All those goodies, fun and performance!

The part I like most about celebrating National Day back then was the singing part (it was a tie between this and the half day off..keke). Sang lots of national day themed songs, new ones and the classic ones...Each year, there will be a song dedicated to Singapore, the ones I remembered were "Home", "心连心" and erh.....forgot le..haha...but those classic ones like "Count on me, Singapore", "Stand up for Singapore", "One People, One Nation, One Singapore" and "There was a time", I will always remember them.....

As I grow older, I find it hard to remember those new national day songs...Maybe it's because I'm no longer in school and no one teaches us to sing all those new songs...No more celebration together as we left school. In universary, we can't feel any national day spirit...Still remembered when in school, I would always feel so energtic and delighted when the whole school sang together, felt very proud to be a Singaporean...haha...

This year, the song is "My Island Home" by Gong Shi Jia...think not many people know her ba...I never hear the complete song before, only watch a bit of it on TV when I switch channels...haiz...but I find the lyrics meaningful too...think it will appeal most to those Singaporeans working overseas ba.....

My Island Home

This is my home
She's everything to me
Grace and beauty
In all that you see
My island home
Wherever I may be
I never will forget her
Nor will she forget me

Chorus
And I will sing
A song of home
A land of peace
Where dreams are born everyday
My home
Wherever I may be
I believe
You will always be a part of me

My island home
Home of my family
This is my future
Where I want to be
(This is my future This is my home)

My home
Wherever I may be
I believe
You will always be a part of me
A part of me

My Primary School Resume

Frankly speaking, I'm pretty afraid of not being able to find a job when I graduate..cos I got nothing to show on my resume, no amazing grades, no superb cca records etc, no remarkable skills...argh!! Mmm...if they allow activities we done during my primary school days, I can add in one title for myself- "performer" ...

Yup yup, surprisely a shy and quiet girl I am, I performed in school often since I was a kindergarden child...

K2:
I was chosen by my teacher to perform in a group consisting of some K1 and K2 children. The song was "Top Of The World". Still remembered those rehearsals after school and how I got scolded for turning in the wrong direction...haha...Our costume was a shirt with barbie dolls picture on them and stretchy pants...It was the first time I put on make-up too...made me look like a auntie doll cos of the heavy make-up..haha....The prop was a big pong-pong...keke

Performed the song not only once, but quite a few times..In ang mo kio, there used to be a huge threater, (it has turned into Jubliee now if I'm not wrong) and kindergarden children received their awards there...So my first performance was there, to perform for the parents...haha...Later, we also performed in a community-organised activity to celebrate the moon-cake festival...It was fun and I received a toy 大哥大 handphone..I was so happy!!

Pri 1:
I performed in school with three other children....We were reciting some chinese rhymes, about being careful when crossing the road...we were made to hold hands and read out the rhymes...keke...

Pri 3:
Each class had to send a group of students to perform a skit...Our class chose a skit which title is something like "The seven princess and the dragon". When teacher was choosing the actresses and actors, I remembered I raised my hands eagerly, hoping the teacher would pick me! haha...how I wish I still have that courage to raise up my hands in class now so I can earn my participation marks.. Some boys also helped me by asking the teacher to choose me..So I got to act out the fourth princess...was super excited cos I got to wear my pretty dress to school and wore a paper-made crown too...haha...

Pri 4:
That year, students were selected to perform for national day celebration that was held in school..I went for audition and got in..The performance was to ask us to perform several national-themed songs, singing and making simple dance movements together....To show multi-racial society, we were asked to dress in traditional costume. I borrowed my mum's red red cheongsum..Was so pai seh when I came out of the changing room...haha...

That summarised my performer life during my younger days...mmm...no wonder they say young children fear nothing..they are right, cos I volunteered in the above...now me is a shy shy girl, very low-profile...haha...dun dare to voice out one...

If I can write them down in my resume, that would help to add some colours to it, right? keke

Holding Hands

There is a school for kindergarten kids in front of my block, everyday when I walk past, I can see small children studying, playing in the classrooms..When it's playtime, their teachers will take them outside classroom and line them up before marching off to playground...

The same old tradition still holds when lining up is ......holding hands! Haha, still remember when I was their age, our teacher would always make us hold hands while lining up...and the rule was you needed to hold hands with the opposite gender... I was always made to stand in front cos of my height and I held hands with a boy which was among the shortest too..keke... Till now, these kindergarten kids are still doing the same things... mmm...

Maybe they want to make sure the kids stay together and won't get lost, or they want to promote healthy relationships by asking to hold hands with the opposite gender...haha... During that time, I felt weird initially when I was made to hold a boy's hands cos they were often sweaty..Haha...But it's sweet to see small innocent boys and girls holding hands (sometimes, I do see girls dragging their boy partners when the boy is walking too slow), and walking orderly to the playground..To them, holding hands is a symbol of friendship....

When people grow up, holding hands with the opposite gender means a relationship, a symbol of love...from friends to couple...You can stroll along the beach, saying nothing but just holding hands can make you feel warmth and at peace... However, does the meaning of holding hands diminish when you get older or after getting married? Rarely do I see old couples holding hands...

If you can still hold hands lovingly with your partner when you are both old, that will be sweet, dun you think so?
