How long are we going to live?

Heard from today's news that global warming is getting more serious. The experts said that after 25 years, the sea level would have risen quite high that almost 2000 Indonesian islands that are low land would be drowned, and disappear forever!

Oh gosh, 25 years is so so soon....I have known that our Mother Earth has been seriously injured by us human beings and this kind of things are within expectation. But 25 years seem so soon...Sooner or later, things will get worst if nothing is done and we will soon vanish too...This reminds of the movie, "Day After Tomorrow", so scary....

I pity our future generation who have to live in a world that is constantly being damaged....Our lives seem limited.....

The death news of Taiwanese actress Xu Wei Lun has also shocked me.

She was involved in a serious car accident on her way to filming and after about 40 hours of saving, she could not make it and left the world. She is only 28 years old... Her friends and ex-boyfriends were so upset...

Life is indeed unpredictable......

What do they really mean?

I will be stepping out of my comfort student zone and into the corporate world in less than *gasp* 4 months! Scary just thinking about it, how am I going to compete with so many outstanding graduates? :( ...I just want to sell ice cream..haha....

Ok, enough of my sobbing...Below are some jokes related to corporate lingo :)

"COMPETITIVE SALARY"
~ We remain competitive by paying less than our competitors.

"JOIN OUR FAST-PACED TEAM"
~ We have no time to train you.

"SOME OVERTIME REQUIRED"
~ Some time each night and some time each weekend.

"DUTIES WILL VARY"
~ Anyone in the office can boss you around.

"PROBLEM-SOLVING SKILLS A MUST"
~ You're walking into a company in perpetual chaos.

"REQUIRES TEAM LEADERSHIP SKILLS"
~ You'll have the responsibilities of a manager, without the pay or respect.

"GOOD COMMUNICATION SKILLS"
~ Management communicates, you listen, figure out what they want and do it.

What is Beauty?

Have you seen the latest ad of Dove on introducing their dove self esteem fund? I find the fund very interesting and unique. In the ad, it shows pictures of young girls being unhappy with their appearance....as they are constrained by the definition of beauty commonly protrayed in TV and movies...

"Too many girls develop low self-esteem from hang-ups about looks and, consequently, fail to reach their full potential in later life. So, Dove created the Dove Self-Esteem Fund as an agent of change to educate and inspire girls on a wider definition of beauty."~ This is the aim of the dove self-esteem fund.

This is indeed true. Many many girls out there, think that there's always something wrong with their appearance, be it their height, weight, their pimples, their single eye-lids......

They carried a study "Real Truth About Asian Beauty" and only 3% of Singaporean women describe themselves as beautiful!

Also, for Singapore women, it has been a long time since they felt or were told they were beautiful. The average response from Singapore was that it had been 95 days since they had been told they were beautiful—second only to Japan at 103 days on average. Half the Singaporean women (49%) said it had been since last year or longer that they had felt beautiful.

Haiz, the results seem so sad, don't they? Women are always troubled over the definition of beauty...So what is true beauty?

Hmm....

My mum bought a new oven toaster today. Eager to try out this new thing, we decided to toast some bread. Last time, I have been using the bread toaster to toast bread where I just put the bread and wait for them to pop out....

However, this time, I had to set timing all those to toast the bread... The conclusion is

Charcoal bread, anyone?

I better use a toaster next time... (-_-)''

Is it love?

Are your palms sweaty, is your heart racing? and your voice caught within your chest?

- It isn't love, it's like.

You can't keep your hand off them, am I right?

- It isn't love, it's lust

Do you want them because you know they're there?

- It isn't love, it's loneliness

Do you stay for their confessions of love, because you don't want to hurt them?

- It isn't love, its pity

Are you there because they kissed you, or held your hand?

- It isn't love, it's lack of confidence

Do you pardon their faults because you care about them?

- It isn't love, it's friendship

Do you accept their faults because it's part of who they are?

- Then it's love

Do you cry for their pain, even when they're strong?

- Then it's love

Do their eyes see your true heart, and touch your soul so deeply, it hurts?

- Then it's love

Do you stay because a blinding incomprehensible mix of pain, and elations pulls you close and hold you?
- Then it's love

Would you give them your heart, your life, your death?

- Then it's love

And always remember - love isn't one sided!! Both must love for LOVE to exist!

Beautiful Women

Age 3: She looks at herself and sees a Queen.

Age 8: She looks at herself and sees Cinderella.

Age 15: She looks at herself and sees an Ugly Sister
(Mom, I can't go to school looking like this!)

Age 20: She looks at herself and sees "too fat/too thin, too short/too tall, too straight/too curly"- but decides she's going out anyway.

Age 30: She looks at herself and sees "too fat/too thin, too short/too tall, too straight/too curly"- but decides she doesn't have time to fix it so she's going out anyway.

Age 40: She looks at herself and sees "too fat/too thin, too short/too tall, too straight/too curly"-but says, "At least, I am clean" and goes out anyway.

Age 50: She looks at herself and sees "I am" and goes wherever she wants to go.

Age 60: She looks at herself and reminds herself of all the people who can't even see themselves in the mirror anymore. Goes out and conquers the world.

Age 70: She looks at herself & sees wisdom, laughter and ability, goes out and enjoys life.

Age 80: Doesn't bother to look. Just puts on a purple hat and goes out to have fun with the world.

Maybe we should all grab that purple hat earlier.

Argh...

Recently, I find that I'm too vulnerable to virus le!!! Always coming down with runny nose now and then, sore throat also... I have used up two packets of tissue papers in seminar today!!

My first week of school has ended and as usual, challenges ahead...For my elective, it seems fun cos I am able to do what I like which is to practise creativity and design stuff such as designing book cover, coming up with newsletters...

All these assignments have to be completed in tutorials and they are using Mac computers...I have never used a Mac before and we had to ask another classmate how to shut down the computer! Haha, so ma lu, but I really dunno where to click, it's different from Windows...Guess I will be quite slow in tutorials since i'm not familiar with Mac computers...haha

What's most worrying is my FYP now.... I really pray that my project will finish on time and we are able to hand in a beautiful piece of work!!! FYP mates, we must jia you!! We want Second Uppers!!! Hahaa....

Go go go...!!! *cheering with my runny nose*

P.S. My friend commented that I am still as panicky as before...Mmm, she says there's no need to be so panicky as there will always be a way! I hope she is right...there's a way!!! yeah!!!

First day of school

Yup, my final year last semester is starting this coming wednesday...my last 4 months of schooling....To date, i have been studying for 15 years, starting from age 6...

Do you still remember your very first day of school? My first step to being a student began when I was in Kindergarten 1. Different people have different feelings towards going to school for the first time in your life...

Some feel excited. Some feel nervous, but guess most young kids will feel frightened...cos this is their first time leaving their mums and studying together with a bunch of strangers...

Well, I still remembered quite clearly what happened during my first day in school. I was sitting at a round table and I was biting my nails!! Yes, I still remembered that...haha...in front of me was a bigger-sized girl who was looking at me..haha...

I was not a bit nervous or frightened...In fact, I think i felt quite calm then..hahaha....I realised a small boy was hitting on the door of the classroom, trying to get out of the classroom. He was yelling and crying for his mum who was outside...some kids were also crying and the teacher had a hard time calming them down.

However, I remembered feeling excited for my first day in Primary school...I was so excited that I could not fall asleep the day before, and kept peeping at my new school bag that was in front of my mattress... (yup, i dun have a bed back then and i slept in the living room...keke)

So do you still remember how you felt during your first day in school? :)

Having a bad day?

Everyone has a bad day once in a while and we often asked angrily, "Why are we so suay ?!?!", thinking that we are the unluckiest people on earth...But wait...if you are having a bad day today, read the following true stories for some "comfort"...remember, some people could have the day much worst than you....

1. The average cost of rehabilitating a seal after the Exxon Valdez oil spill in Alaska was $80,000. At a special ceremony, two of the most expensively saved animals were released back into the wild amid cheers and applause from onlookers. A minute later, in full view, a killer whale ate them both.

2. A woman came home to find her husband in the kitchen, shaking frantically with what looked like a wire running from his waist towards the electric kettle. Intending to jolt him away from the deadly current she whacked him with a handy plank of wood by the back door, breaking his arm in two places. Until that moment he had been happily listening to his Walkman.

3. Two animal rights protesters were protesting at the cruelty of sending pigs to a slaughterhouse in Bonn Germany. Suddenly the pigs, all two thousands of them, escaped through a broken fence and trampled the two helpless protesters to death.

4. Iraqi terrorist, Khay Rahnajet, didn't pay enough postage on a letter bomb. It came back with "return to sender" stamped on it. Forgetting it was the bomb he opened it and was blown to bits.

Words of wisdom from Kirk Douglas who recovered from a stroke:

WHEN THINGS GO BAD, always remember: It could be worse.
NEVER, NEVER GIVE UP. Keep working on your speech and your life.
NEVER LOSE YOUR SENSE OF HUMOR. Laugh at yourself, laugh with others.
STEM DEPRESSION by thinking of, reaching out to and helping others.
DO UNTO OTHERS as you would have them do unto you.

Happy New Year

My very first post in 2007!! Yesterday was New Year Eve and I started the day off by having a small gathering with my JC friends...Later, I met OP for a movie which he highly recommended...

However, I got a terrible shock during the movie which I felt cannot be mentioned here..haha...Anyway, it was funny but a bit extreme!! Keke....The most exciting part of my celebration is the DUCK TOUR!!

OP meant to keep it a surprise, however, I saw him purchasing the tickets so it wasn't a surprise anymore. Nevertheless, we were both very excited since this was our first ride together. The DUCK tour offers a combined City and Habour tour, which meant it can travel both on sea and land...wooo~~~It's an hour ride but it is a bit expensive though...

We started off at 8pm, and the highlight was the SPLASH. It was the moment where the DUCK headed for the water, it went down with a splash..haha...needed to be careful if not you'll be all wet! haha....The ride in the water was simply beautiful!! so cooling and so beautiful cos of all the lightnings.....

In the boat, we looked at the side of the river and saw
tonnes of people! Really a lot lot of people, already waiting for the countdown at 12am and the 8 min fireworks...Me and OP had decided not to join in to watch the fireworks cos we knew how painful and difficult it would be when it was time to return home after the fireworks. How can you return home easily when there was about 170, 000
people together in the same place!!!

Anyway, the DUCK tour was fun and we enjoyed it a lot!!
Happy 2007, everyone!! :)
